Ardwell Chalets are the perfect base for an affordable family holiday in peaceful surroundings in beautiful South West Scotland.
The six wooden chalets are situated on the shore of Luce Bay, and face across the bay with fine views of the Galloway Hills. In front of them is a grassy area where children and pets can run around and play safely or swim, paddle, sail and fish in the sea -- or you can simply sit on the verandah and admire the spectacular scenery. Luce Bay is a renowned fishing location famous for its bass and tope so anglers can fish from the shore or sail deeper into the bay.
The chalets are on the edge of the tiny settlement of Ardwell and three miles from the village of Sandhead, where there is a shop, post office, tea room with home-made treats and a child-friendly pub selling excellent food. Ten miles away is the busy little town of Stranraer on Loch Ryan with its leisure centre, swimming pool and other amenities.
Within walking distance are the beautiful gardens of Ardwell House with their renowned flowers and shrubs. Visitors to this idyllic informal garden can enjoy leisurely strolls through the woods looking out for birds and wildlife; feed the swans and ducks on the loch, visit the pretty Walled Garden selling home-grown plants or try to spot all the owl statues and carvings throughout the gardens.
The chalets are particularly popular with cyclists and sea anglers while for walkers The Mull of Galloway Trail footpath passes nearby and stretches 11 miles to the spectacular cliffs at Scotland's most southerly point, the Mull of Galloway.
Built of Finnish design, the chalets are attractive both inside and out, and have a high standard of insulation so they maintain a comfortable temperature in hot or cold weather. Each chalet has a good-sized living room with TV, two bedrooms (one with either a twin or a double bed and one with bunk beds), fully fitted kitchenette with fridge, oven and microwave and bathroom with bath and shower above. They are fully furnished and can comfortably accommodate four and by arrangement some can sleep up to six. Visitors are required only to bring sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases, towels and tea towels as duvets and pillows are supplied. Electricity is paid for with a slot meter which accepts both the old and new one-pound coins. Four of the chalets now have double beds in the main bedroom while two still have twin beds. Please let us know which you would prefer and we will endeavour where possible to accommodate you.
There is space beside each chalet for parking or outdoor entertaining. Many people also meet up with friends at our neighbouring small caravan park. Two hundred yards away from the Chalets is Ardwell House East Lodge, a one-bedroom cottage available for rent in the grounds of 18th Century Ardwell House.
